WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?
70% of people with chronic illness reported clinical improvements after homeopathic treatment (according to research published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine).
Homeopathy is a system of medicine which is based on treating the individual with highly diluted substances given in mainly tablet form, which triggers the body’s natural system of healing. Based on their experience of their symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to the patient. It works on the principle of “like cures like” – that is, a substance that would cause symptoms in a healthy person is used to cure those same symptoms in illness. For example, one remedy which might be used in a person suffering from insomnia is coffea, a remedy made from coffee.
WHAT CAN HOMEOPATHY HELP?
Homeopathy treats the person rather than the named “disease” so potentially it can help patients with a wide range of conditions, both acute and chronic. Homeopathy can help support the body through times of change and development, through childhood into puberty. It can offer a gentle holistic approach to patients of all ages from pregnancy through to wise old age.
Please see the British Homeopathic Association page on conditions with positive evidence here , and the resources page for more information on research and trials into Homeopathy.
WHAT TO EXPECT.
After booking an appointment a comprehensive health questionnaire will be sent out for you to complete. This will cover all areas of your past and present health conditions. Please bring this with you to the consultation along with any medication or supplements you are currently taking. We work with your General Practitioner to offer integrated health benefits for you, the individual.
The initial consultation will last in the region of 1 1/2hours. In this consultation you will be asked detailed questions about your current health, medical history, diet and lifestyle. Some of the questions may seem strange, but the important thing to remember with homeopathy is that it treats the individual in a holistic way, and so we are looking to understand how you experience your symptoms and how they affect your life. We can then match you with the most appropriate medicine. You may be given the remedy at the consultation, or it may be sent out to you. You will be given advice on diet, lifestyle choices and possible referrals to other specialists.
Subsequent consultations will involve discussing the changes that have occurred so that we can understand how you have responded to the prescription and what the next step of your treatment will be. These normally last 45 mins to an hour.
Consultations can be conducted face-to-face at our clinic, or online via Skype – whichever suits you.
